Vehicle Navigation System is central display system in the vehicle providing entertainment and route guidance to the destination.
The present method describes the method to display overlapped POI (Point of Interest) Icons for all zoom level. Considering the multi storied building and the location where more than one point of interested can be of our interest.
Today’s vehicle navigation systems can display POI (Point of Interest) on the map which makes it easy for the driver to quick identification on the map.
However, if there are too many POI icons displayed on the map at the same point, the map looks very cluttered or it is difficult to read.
Discloser is the display method for displaying the overlapped POI group icons at all the zoom levels.
The present discloser will help the user to get the required POI though it will be geographically overlap to each other. It also includes grouping of POI icon for the dissimilar or similar category.
US Patent EP2452326 A1 describes the method for an overlapping POI. It has not well-defined display method for displaying those POI icons.
Disadvantages:
1) It doesn’t have any case for overlapping POI in a case of the same geographical location like multi storied building.
2) It will not consider the highest zooming level overlapping.
3) It doesn’t support overlapping for dissimilar category POI.
4) Instead of zoom in to see the POI, toggling of POI with distance information will be the most precise way to do this at same zoom level.
Here zoom in is not required to see the details bunch of POI icons. This method describes the solution displaying overlapped POI for the all zoom level. For highest zoom level also can display the overlapped POI icons.
To avoid above-mentioned problem, vehicle navigation system shall provide the mechanism to display one POI at a time when multiple POI(s) have to be shown at the same point on the map.
In the present world, we have many multi storeys building a location in each area. In those such building, it is possible to have more than one POI of our interest. Considering that in mind we need a display method which will handle this without overlapping to each other and without losing any required information.
It may be possible then on 1st Floor there is a bank and on 5th Floor there is the shopping center and both are of our interest. It may be possible then on 1st Floor there is Shopping Center and on 5th Floor there is Sports center and both are of our interest.
In some condition, we can find the many branded items. While in displaying POI icons we will get overlapped POI icons. Or may all cannot be displayed at same time. To avoid that many methods can be used to display all required icons. Some of the methods are mentioned below.
1) Time based automatic toggling.
2) User touch input to toggle.
3) Pop up text box displaying all brands.
4) Notification for overlapped POI.
5) Merging of POI icons with small size and indicating + symbol in between those icons. (Only Applicable to two overlapping POI icons)
6) Blink & toggle.
Vehicle navigation system shall provide the mechanism to display one POI at a time when there are multiple POI(s) to be shown at the same point on a map. Once the first POI is shown for certain predefined time (This time period shall be configured by a user via HMI).
If there are existing multiple POI(s) then there shall be a small graphical indication so that there are more POI(s) exist at the same point and they are yet to be shown in a running order.
The order in which the POI(s) shall be displayed shall also be defined by the user via HMI. Example, if there are multiple POI(s) such as petrol station, hospital, school etc, then user shall define the order in which these POI(s) will be shown one after the other (example, Hospital, then Schools and then Petrol station).
